Some of the wonderful comments we receive are, "she
is so kind, and does anything I want her to do"
and, "Thank you for your dedication and sacrifice of your time"
also there's, "We just wanted you to know how pleased we are with
Luvey, she's a great mare!" and then this one, "we appreciate
your experience and how easy it is to work with you all."
We
enjoy hearing from all of you and hope to find many more happy homes
for these wonderful Draft Horses.
Here's a letter:
"From Ivan, Susan, and their daughter (who
is writing this) Kari,
I personally want to thank you for spending so
much time showing us this horse. We have never felt like such valued
customers before. Everything you told us about your horses, especially
the one I rode, was exatly what you said it was. We were not disappointed
in the least for having driven an hour and a half. We can not wait to
bring him home and make him a well loved addition to our family.
Again, thank you for your time,
Ivan, Susan & Kari"
An Email:
Hello!!
I just wanted to thank all of you. I had a very
memorable time there on Saturday May 17th. I was the one that got engaged
while riding J.C. Penny!!! I can not stop reliving that hour, it was
wonderful!!
Jo, You were a great guide and you took great
pictures!! I have been showing everyone the pictures and telling them
to get out there and see you!!
I was serious when I said I would love to help
you guys out if you need another rider. I was very impressed with how
well kept your horses were.
I am starting Veterinary school next year, I
want to specialize in large animals. (Especially Horses!) I currently
have a job in a veterinary diagnostic lab, but have weekends free. If
you are interested in some part time help, let me know!!
I know I will be back to see you guys soon. Saturday
was the first time back in the saddle since I had to put my horse down
and it was great! I think I will be looking for a horse soon, thanks
to you.

Another e-mail:
Back in September I bough a 10 year old Belgian from you for use on
our Mounted Enforcement Unit. His training continues but he has been
doing very well so far! I couldn't be happier. I just wanted to let
you know how happy I was with the way you treated us and how upfront
you were in talking about your stock.
I enclosed a picture of Buford T. Justice, who I named after Jackie
Gleason's character in Smokey and the Bandit. The picture is of us working
the Cinco De Mayo Festival in Anaheim last weekend. He does really well
with the kids when they want to come up and pet him, really a gentle
giant just like you said. He also has done really well with crowd control
training, sensory training, and even with firing blanks off of his back.

I just wanted to say thanks!

Yet another:
Paula, Thanks for all your help Saturday. I realize you must have been
exhausted, and we appreciate how patient you were with us, giving us
lessons and trailering horses from across the way for us. We are so
excited about our new mare (the name, Ella, may not stick.) ! We are
really happy! You had mentioned talking to Elmer to get any and all
information about her and her background for us(did she have a name?
papers?.) We would really appreciate it so much! Also, can I arrange
to come out to your ranch to try her out on a trail ride as well as
driving? I'm sure you have rules about these kinds of things, so let
me know how we can work it out (go out with you, JoJo, or one of your
people?) I want to learn as much as I can about her and how best to
"speak her language." I will do all I can to accommodate your
schedule, just let me know what works best for you. Ted is REALL
Sincere thanks,
Stephanie and family
P. S. I have to let you know how sweet Roxanne was to us when you were
away! She was very enthusiastic and professional, returning our e-mail,
and then later, on the phone. You can rest assured, you are in good
hands with her while you are away! JoJo was so helpful and positive,
too! Such wonderful people you have to work with!!!!!

Hi Paula; I am always checkin' the ads! Winston (Joker) is doing GREAT!
Has Muscled out really well...Now Six or a bit more? Anyway, That Belgian/Paint
or Spotted Draft Cross, is such a Dear Boy to Me! And What a Character!
He is still so playful and always gettin' in to things and So Personable..I
Adore Him...But need to be Kindly Firm or he runs Amuck at the place
where he lives...Currently he lives in Olivenhain, (Encinitas,) and
always draws so much attention, wherever we ride. People know "Winston,"
but not Me- not my Name! I Always tell people I got him from YOU, and
tell them to look there if they really want a Draft or Cross...Hope
you have gotten at least a couple of clients from me! If not yet, I
am always talking! And people are Always Lookin'! He is SO UNIQUE...People
just cannot believe his Looks! The Blue Eyes are Killer! I know I have
told you repeatedly, and I will say it again: THANK YOU for bringing
this horse into my life. He is the Love of my life, ! besides my son!
I will always be grateful to you for being the instrument to bring him
to me. It was meant To Be! I will pray that all your clients are as
Happy with their new Family Members as Me....And I will especially Pray
that Each Horse you bring Finds Their True Life-Long Owner and Friend.
That is Most Important! Love to You! Carolynne
And another email:
Hi,
This is Cathy, I emailed you about your horses a week or so ago.
I wanted to let you know, by coincidence, that I just got one of your
horses in training.........
Winston.....owned by Carolynne Vivaldi.
I have only ridden him twice so far, he just started training last
week, but he is the sweetest thing ever and he has such a good mind.
He will be easy to put some polish on.
She rides him out on the trail all over the place, from Pendleton to
Cuyamaca and all over. She wants him more ring broke, so that is my
job.
I really like the big guy, just wanted to let you know that. We will
send pics of him to you soon.
Cathy
And a letter:
Hi Paula-
Hope to meet you soon! Linda, she bought a big draft horse called "Molly".
She is out at the ranch too, Linda told me to tell you hi and she is
really enjoying Molly. She had nothing but good to say about you :)
Hope this check reaches you well. I am glad to have done business with
ya!
Sincerely,
Cindy
Another wonderful email:
Hi! I bought a 4 yr old Belgian cross mare from you last year named
Sodie Pop. Just wanted to let you know she's doing great! My 5yr old
rides her around and just loves her. She'll hop on her bareback and
go. Sodie Pop(renamed Shiloh) is also in foal to an Oldenburg stallion,
Fuerst Gotthard aka "The Titleist". Hoping to make a jumper
out of the baby! Sodie Pop is just so sweet and loves to give hugs and
nothing bothers her on trail.
Take care!

And how 'bout this one...
Hey Paula-
I just got back from riding Brasco, and I gotta say, I think we got
another perfect horse from you! I know it's just been 24hrs. but he
is doing great. In that 24 hrs. we've walked to our corner store and
encountered two motorcycles, cars on the highway, and a manhole. He
was fine. This evening I took him out under saddle using Kona's Mex.
hackamore and he was fantastic. We came across barking dogs, an air
nailgun, a burnt out shell of a car and a wood splitter being used.
He was great, and still very responsive.
Thanks again I'll keep you posted.

Yet another email...
HI THERE THIS COLE AND TO LET YOU KNOW HE IS DOING SO GOOD OUT
ON THE TRAIL IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY, AND MY FRIENDS ARE SO IMPRESSED.
OH BUY THE WAY HE LOVE PEPPERMINT TREATS NOW HE WANTS THEM ALL

OVER THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND OUT TO GAVILAN HILLS FOR A THREE RIDE,
AND HE DID VERY WELL, AND I, AM, VERY IMPRESSED WITH HIM BECAUSE
HE LEARNS SO FAST. I ALSO HAVE GRIL THAT EXERCISES HIM TWICE A
WEEK AND IS WORKING HIM TO.

Heres an email from 04/13/04:
Hi Paula
I wanted to thank you for your super tour on Easter day at your ranch.
I just loved Stormy and Courtney my wife loved Ellie. We will arm wrestle
and my wife will win probably. How tall is Stormy? And do you think
Ellie will work for me? We are waiting for our income tax return because
my wife is having a problem with me charging a horse. But we will eventfully
buy a horse from you I’m sure. We both love diesel so I hope one
or more of these horses are still around when we are properly funded.
Thanks again for everything your horses and you and your honesty sold
us on buying from you.

One From Reuben...
Hi Paula,
I purchased a Percheron gelding from you about three years ago.
I
decided to name him Beauregaurd and he is know affectionately
as "Beau".
It's been quite a while and I just wanted you to know that we
are doing
great. I ride him as often as possible and have also taken him
on a
number of camping trips. He trailers very well and is always very
eager
to learn. here is a picture of me, him and my dog out for a ride.
Take care and God Bless,
Reuben

More, More...
Hi Paula,
Just wanted to tell you how happy I am with the mare I bought
from you. I've owned her just over 2 months now, and she is coming
along beautifully. Everywhere we go, she gets compliments - she's
such a cutie pie! Here are the before & after pictures - the
first was taken the day I bought her, the second was taken just
6 weeks later. What a difference!
Thank you so much for my little drafty girl!

Gotta Love it!
Hi Paula,
Do you remember "Zeke". I wanted to let you know what
a great guy he is. He loves to be around people and especially
kids. This coming Saturday, he will have been in two parades.
He is really an attention getter and worth all the work. The photo
attached is a birthday suprise for an 87 year old lady from England.
She was unable to leave her house so I brought Zeke to her as
she used to be around horses in her youth. Yes, she lives in a
mobile home park so you can imagine the suprise of the other residents
to see a horse trotting through the neighborhood. I also ride
him in a mounted posse and am planning on getting him trained
for search and rescue work.
Anyway, hope you don't mind the update. Take care.

A wonderful note:
Hi Paula & family. I just wanted the thank you for
your kindness and hospitality today. I so appreciated
your unbiased candor, and I truly trust and value your
judgement. As I am new at choosing a horse for myself,
I need all the good advice I can get.
Thanks again for everything! Give Kenny a good
scratching from me.

Funny Stuff
Hi Paula,
Wanted to let you know how they are doing. Sir William (Big John) has
been saddled and ridden in the arena. He lacks confidence, but is definitely
showing me the "try". He will be fine. I did some basic ground
work training (I went to a 10 weekend Jerry Tindell clinic) with him
and he is responding very well. He VERY much enjoys human attention
and companionship. I don't see him as a "project" horse anymore.
I think he is staying.
The mare came into a "false heat" when she arrived. She got
my existing geldings all stirred up. My 27 year old Arab/Appy kept calling
to her. The 20 year old TB gelding was "ready" and tried to
mount her through the fence. As a result, she has been named "Viagra".
I rode her in the arena yesterday but she really didn't like the bit
and was a little "fussy". I recognized the problem and didn't
make a big deal of it with her. She has a smaller mouth, so a 5"
bit works well for her. Today I used a copper-mouth D-ring on her and
she was wonderful.
We are VERY happy with the choices you helped us make.
Here are some pics. Big John is in the arena, Viagra is outside the
south end.
Thanks So Very Much,
Mike & Lorieta
There's More...
Thought you might like to see what the geldings we got from
you in March have been up to. They have both been used for East
Indian weddings without a hich. Still need pictures of them on
the Cinderlla carriage hopefully by the end of this next week.
Am looking for a team of blacks for hearse use thinking about
oct or nov if you find any let us know. prefere shires but need
street safe before breed.

Good Job!
Hi Paula. I don't know if you remember, but about a year and
a half ago I bought a half percheron gelding from you--the one
with the striped legs. Anyhow, this past weekend we went to our
first dressage show, a CDS rated show in Rancho Cucamonga. We
got a third and a second place in two classes--Introductory Test
A and B!
Many people asked about my horse and I told them that I had gotten
from you up in Anza. Anyhow, it seems like there is a definite
interest in the dressage world!

Hi Paula,
I just wanted to touch base with you after a year or two. Time flies
when you are having fun!
We purchased a Belgian/Paint cross from you about a year and a half
ago that I believe you guys called "General". We nicknamed
him "Tiny" and name sort of stuck. He is such a love and
I wanted to send you some current pictures and let you know what
he is up to.
My daughter Christine (in pics) has shown him in Dressage. You will
be proud to know in his first effort he received a 70.0% and a 69.87%
and with that, the high score of the show! He is currently getting
ready to show again at Training level. He also was a star in our
local 4th of July parade and is second to none on the trail. My
daughter has been known to stand up on his back on trail and he
could care less....I don't watch that part! :)
We are so thrilled with him and I just wanted you to know if anyone
asks where we got "a horse like him," I point them to
you. Drafts are the best!
Thanks again for such a great guy!!

Here's a nice one...
Dear Paula,
It has been almost a month now and I have been so busy with my new baby
that I have hardly had time to sit and think of how to thank you for
my beloved "Bruiser" Let me begin by telling you, that everyone
I spoke with said how crazy I was to buy a horse "sight un-seen"
You have proved them all wrong!!!!!
When the trailer pulled up and they brought him down, my first reaction
was "He is the most gorgeous animal I have ever seen." My
second thought was "Oh my goodness, he is HUGE!!! At over 17 H
I was overwhelmed at my 5"4 height and 120lbs. I thought, "
How will I ever ride him?"
The second day home we began riding him. We did everything WRONG!!!!
He should have givin up on me the second day. But through all of your
help and patience with a rookie Draft Horse woman; he is doing great.
I love his sweet dispostiton. His "kind eye" would look at
me and say "What are you doing?" Now that I have "him"
figured out, I cannot get enough! We are planning a nice little ride
tonight and will be thinking of you Paula, The perfect match maker!!
Thanks to you I now have a passion for Shires!!! I am learning all I
can and I learn something new every day. These truly are gentle giants
and I am honored to now have the chance to give him the all the love
a sweet baby like him deserves!
With all my heart.... Thanks,
Johnah
An Apple a day...
Hey Paula,
Apple (renamed Apple Jack, or AJ for short) is doing great. Everyone
around the ranch loves him and thinks he's adorable. Even better is
when they see him under saddle and how nicely he moves...
I just wanted to check in with you b/c I know that you will be getting
some new horses in this month... I'm still looking for a pony or small
horse for my sons... If it drives, even better, but that's not necessarily
a requirement at this point. What IS a requirement is that the horse
have had lots of "kid" experience with riding. Really easy
going, safe, dependable. Older is fine, if it's healthy and sound.
Thanks for keeping your eye out for us... My boys can't wait to have
their own pony or horse to love and ride...
Susan
ps I will send pictures ASAP
Yet another happy customer!
Hi Paula,
Just wanted to say how happy we are that we were introduced to you by
Shannon. She is coming to pick up our two newest editions to our family,
and let me tell you, we can't even sleep, we are so excited. All weekend
on the cruise, all we could talk about was Sultan and Savannah and how
much we already love them.
I can't say enough about how comfortable you made us fell with our selections,
and the care you took with our "beginner" status. We got to
see Duke out in the arena tonight with our Thoroughbread, Joey, and
he is so lovable. Shannon assured us that all draft horses are like
this and we couldn't have boughten them from a better place.
Once again, thank you so much for all the cosideration and time you
spent with us. I assure you that in the near future, you will see us
pull up again, Sam has already started talking about "our next
horse".

Here's a Biggie...
Hi, Paula.
Chrome here. Laura let me into the house to use the computer....in fact,
I've shown her a few things about Hotmail that she didn't know...she's
a bit of a dinosaur. ..but kind..... Let's see. ...I wanted to catch
you up on my activities and thought I would do Laura a favor since she's
a bit busy these days.
I arrived here just fine, left alone in the big van/ truck thing for
the last of the trip after some hi-falutin' warmblood got dropped off
at Gig Harbor on the way up to this place called Poulsbo. They let me
settle in quietly in the two small pastures that are here, and so I
didn't get too much grass too soon I got stalled at night and at times
during the day at first, which I didn't mind. I was a bit tired from
the long trip. After I got used to my surroundings here (and I must
say, many people came by just to admire me!)I got to go on long walks
being ground-driven in English tack and I learned the basics of wearing
the same funny small tack and going round in circles...I think it's
called "lungeing". They said I was very good, so then we went
into the trailer (I'm being very good at this, too!) and went to the
logging trails for a nice trail ride. I was a little fidgity for Mary
and Laura to get on (I have to provide them SOME challenge for fun)
and they traded off riding me on the trails until Laura's knee started
to bother her.
Then Mary got on me again and I don't know what happened, I guess I
forgot I was supposed to be "broke" and I bucked Mary off.
I know I was bad, but I didn't run away afterward, and I didn't really
mean to get her off, but I did. Ooops. But she was okay.
Then a few days passed when I was driven on the trails..I think Laura
doesn't like to ride me at home alone right now in case I get that bucking
urge again...but now I understand I shouldn't do that to the nice folks
up here. A nice professional rider took me in for a week and showed
me that I shouldn't try to get a person off my back, even if they are
a bit of a dork and want me to walk faster, or trot or something. I
think I get it now!
Oh, one other thing. The shoer here is very patient, and we have been
working through my feet trimming...you know how scared I was to stand
on three legs for awhile?..well now you should see me! I can do it great!
Trimming isn't scary at all. And I get apple pieces while they do it...
How dumb are these guys, feeding me when I'm supposed to concentrate
on what the funny looking guy with the hoof rasp is doing!
Also, this guy they call "the Vet" came, poked at me bit,
and looked in my mouth for awhile, and said I am "only" 2
and a half years old. What kind of a crack is that?...I think I'm grown
up enough, but apparently Laura thinks I should go out into the pasture
for awhile after getting started to "grow up". At first I
was a little insulted, but now I love the 7 acres I have to play in.....I
just wish it wouldn't rain up here so much. But you should see me slide
in the wet grass! It's awesome, Dude!
It seems that Laura and friends don't hate me for bucking them off (okay,
it was twice, but whose counting!) and that they can see through my
youth to what a nice horse I'll be when I mature a bit.
I know I am very loved, and they are not unhappy with Paula at all,
even though I did kinda forget I was "broke"...what does that
word "broke" mean, anyway?
Okay, Paula, I better wrap this up....gotta go talk to the horses across
the fence this morning. I promised them I would tell them stories about
Missouri and So. Cal. (wink, wink, they think I lived in Hollywood...)
Keep in touch...let's do lunch, I got some good orchard grass hay for
us!
Chrome
Loves her horse!
Hi Paula-
I hope your knee surgery goes/has gone well! I just wanted to let you
know I did that clinic this past weekend w/ Sheryl Lynde, the John Lyons
certified trainer. It was a lot of fun and Brasco did so much better
than I had thought. It ends up he’s quite soft and a quick learner.
Anyway, I just got back from our Hilltop Horsemen meeting, Sheryl was
there and was talking about how good of a horse Brasco was. She said
he was the best horse out there. There were 12 horses and 5 of them
were yours! I just thought that was pretty cool. So many “horse
people” look down on the draft, draft crosses and she was able
to just see his ability as a horse. She’s doing a trailering demo.
The 20th of this month if you know anybody that would be interested.
Again, hope you’re doing well,
Kari
Gentle Foxtrotter!
Dear Paula,
My foxtrotter/draft cross we bought from you about 3 weeks ago is the
horse of my dreams! We can not find anything wrong with him. He is extremely
gentle and calm, he is brave & not spooky on the trail, he is incredibly
obedient, he requires no kicking, just a cluck to go, a beautiful gait,
and last but not least, he is a love bunny also. He has been totally
patient with my inexperience. A saddle slipped off during a longing
at a fast trot and before I noticed he came to a relaxed stop &
looked at me patiently and didn't move an inch while I fixed it. We
love him. Thanks again, Terry & Frank
Champion...
Hi Paula,
I thought that you might like to see how he turned out. He is the
2004 walk trot champion at the OPA shows. Not bad for his first
year of showing.

Another great friend!
Hi Paula! Just wanted to drop you a note and let you know how
George is doing.
It's been a month since my daughter and I brought him home, and
have we been busy!
The first Saturday, I took him on a 3 hour trail ride with a large
group, and George was a hit. Everyone was asking questions, admiring
him, and couldn't believe that I had gotten him just 6 days before.
He was such a good boy.
Our next event was a dressage schooling show in May 04. We rode
2-3 times a week to get ready, and we almost backed out, because
George's 20 meter circles were more like 30 meter ovals, and his
canter was all over the place. In fact, two days before the show,
we had a major breakthrough and then we were 100% committed. He
scored 60% on Training Level Tests 1 and 2, got 2 second places
and were the talk of the show! A lot of people commented on his
appearance and attitude. After the show, the judge and the people
from the association told me how much they loved George, even
though his canter was a little wild. He was gorgeous, fancy and
very happy to do his job. All this from a horse that I have only
had for 4 weeks. Attached are 2 photos from the show.
I will have more stories to tell as time goes by.
Sincerely, Tammy

nicely and is quick to pick up of cues. We couldn't be more pleased
and we thank you very much!

Adorable!
Hi Paula,
How is everything going? Dora Mae is wonderful, the best horse
I could have asked for. She is so willing. I have taken her out
on trail twice already, there is nothing that she wont try. We
went through a stream with flying colors, she went under a waterfall,
and she was perfect with cars going by on the way back home. What
a difference from my previous horse! She is learning about carrots
and automatic waterers. She is so cute, especially when she just
starts playing with the water valve on the automatic waterer and
doesnt drink but curls her lips and bobs her head. It really is
adorable. I will send pics soon, she is shedding out her coat
and looks great with the long mane and tail!
Thanks again,
Vanessa and Dora Mae |

Hi Paula,
Last September, I purchased a little mare (pictured on your testimonials)
from a woman named Robyn. The enclosed picture shows what she is
up to now! This was her first vaulting competition, and she was
awesome!!
So, let me get to the real point here!! Elle Mae is my trot horse
(she walks, trots, and canters in both directions for vaulting),
but she is only 14.2 and too small for a team canter horse. Will
you let me know if you have something suitable for a canter horse?
I prefer a draftX gelding (Elle is not as forgiving as a gelding),
15.3 hands or larger, very good disposition, on the lazy side.
Many clubs use european warmbloods, but I prefer the drafts, and
cannot afford the WB's in any case! Let me know what
you have! Holly |
Happy Mule Owner!
Paula,
I just wanted to let you know how incrediable my new mule is.
I have taken her out on at least 8 long and challenging trail
rides at Miramar Stables and she is perfect!!! She goes through
water, over bridges, through dark tunnels, does NOT mind any of
the Marine jets, helicopters or tanks, and gets alongs well with
all horses. She stands perfectly still when I mouunt and dismount.
She lets me pick her hooves and holds her hooves up as long as
I need to clean them. She is really becoming super affectionate
too and LOVES her ears massaged and rubbed. She NEVER spooks and
can climb the steepest and most challenging hills. She even loves
children! Next Friday, I am taking her on a 65 mile endurance
weekend ride in Cuyamaca. I know she will do great! The only thing
she does not really enjoy is electiric clippers, but she has already
improved and let's me clip her muzzle. We named her "Silver
Bella" and she is the sweetest mule ever with a superior
work ethic. I couldn't be happier! Phillip Ropp did a great job
with her. Oh, her new friend is Tucker, aka Odin, the Black Percheron
from Hay Dude. He is doing super too!
Thanks Again! Kerry
Kerry Writes Again!
Hi Paula,
Bella the mule competed in her first NATRC Endurance Ride last
weekend in Cuyamaca Mts(36 miles). She was so great!!! While all
the Arabs were jigging and bucking down the steep terrian, Bella
was as calm and safe and level headed as can be. She performed
perfectly on all the trail obstacles and the judges gave her very
high marks, such as 9 out of 10 for backing/reinback up a steep
cliff in a straight line. She is so smart because I I only taught
her the rein back the week prior. Anyway, she is the best mule
and most loving mule! She is also a spoiled mule-today I measured
her and ordered her some custom-made mule tack. Thanks again,
Kerry

Hi Paula,
Bella my mule is amazing!!! She is the greatest mule ever! We
are riding together every day. She has been to the beach swimming
in the waves, climbing mountain trails in Cuyamaca, Sierra Nevadas
and roaming the hill of Santa Barbara. What an awesome trail mule!
Anyway, I WANT to get her a driving harness/draft harness. DO
you have any in stock that would fit her? Let me know! Kerry |

Hi Paula,
both the horses are doing great, just wanted to know if Ferbie
(William) Had his West Nile shot at your place? Also wanted to
let you know we did a wild west event this weekend and they both
did fantastic. They both tolerated a Gatlin gun, shotguns, pistols,
shootouts. They were awesome, couldn't of ask for more. I have
a friend that is looking for a large black carriage Gelding...would
even take grey...wants a lot of flash, needs to be safe..would
prefer 18 hds and up. Do you know of anything? Please let me know
about the shot...Thanks

Happy With Happy!
Just a quick note to tell you that "Happy" is doing
great and is so happy! He is quickly learning all his gaits and
has even jumped a few X's in the arena of his own accord! He has
been just amazing on the trail which has been great fun. He is
extremely carrot motivated and gets lots of them!! We are really
pleased with our three year old big gray elephant of a horse and
cannot believe his great mind and intelligence, it is so much
fun being his parents, thank you!
Hope all is going well with your knee's and you are getting better.
Thanks Again,
Robin and Arnie |

Luke is in the House
Hi Paula,
I don't know if you remember Shire Crest Luke....He was the
basket case you bought out of Denver.
Yesterday he got a second place ribbon in dressage. I forwarded
some pics of him to you. The rider is friend of mine who has
been working with him for only a few months.
He is great in the arena, the kindest horse on earth, and I
use him on the trails. clips, trimms, loads like a dream. He
has lost virtually all the fear in him.
Best of yet, we broke each other........Thanks, Glenn

Off to School...
I thought you might enjoy seeing one of your Amish
horses a few years later. I bought this little guy (I
named him Kirby) from you maybe 3 years ago. He's
14.1, about 11 years old, half Haflinger and half
Standardbred. Does that make him a Quarterlinger?
I've used him in my school since them and he's a
favorite of kids and adults alike. In this photo he's
being ridden by Clair (age 5) in her fifth lesson.
Best Regards,
Jill |
Need we say more?
Just thought you might enjoy the picture.
Have a nice day! |

OMG!
Hi Paula,
I just had to write and let you know how everything went once
we got home, we have had a comical 24 hrs Waylon stood stiff in
his corral for at least 45 minutes yesterday snorting at the llama
and goats, once he got those alien beings figured out he then
tried to figure out just what in the heck stall mats are it took
a little coaxing (sweet feed) but I was able to finally get him
to put one hoof on them, then two, then three, then OMG all four
he is an absolute sweetheart the family just loves him, he has
a couple issue's with certain things on the property but once
he gets it, it's all good. I think we are going to take our maiden
ride tomorrow assuming I can find a head stall to fit the bit
the bars are so long all my head stalls are to long as well but
I have an idea and we should be trail bound in the AM. I will
try and keep you posted thanks again to you, c.j. and Jeremy for
all you have done.

Tink is the BEST!!!
Hi Paula,
WE are SOOOO HAPPY!!!!.... Tink is the BEST!!!
I turned her out in a big turnout ring when she arrived ...
she was sooo cute she stood there ... walked a bit.. rolled...
and called out to see if she had any new buddies.. to meet ..
they answered her... a few times.. (including the 2 belgian
geldings in the front)...
The coolest part... was when I walked her away from the entrance
of the ranch... towards the upper ranch (rooms with a view..
ha!)... where her home is..
SHE.... turned her head as we were leaving up the road... and
called out .. and the Belgian geldings only answered back...
how cool is that? out of 120 horses on the ranch.. .. I think
she has 2 new boyfriends...and really wanted to go home with
them.... haha.. oohh..Smiling.. I just thought that was really
cute...
Anyway... I took her for a walk.. she looked at a few things..
(she is far from a draft dead head.. which is really great!!!)
and was very very good...
She had 2 flakes of grass for dinner... and BIG DRINKS.. from
her new large rubbermaid trashcan... :)
I brushed her a bit.. and will bathe her tomorrow... and she
really snaps those feet up when asked.. :)
The new halter I purchased.. was tooo small.. haha.. and I do
not think that my really nice show bridal will fit her...so
I'll try to purchase a girth and bridal tomorrow...
Paula, Please know that we are VERY PLEASED!!!
...I'm smiling.... The BEST part of her... that makes me smile...
is her cute little (well ok big..) ... pink lower lip.. that
turns green ... after she eats grass...
HAHA... I know that's silly... but you know we as humans fall
in love.. with the "little" things... and there is
SOO MUCH OF HER TO LOVE!!!
She is giving us SOOO MUCH JOY!!...
Please know that I'm referring everyone to you... ohh.. a receptionist
"Rachel" at the El Cap Ranch wants a DRAFT!!! I showed
her your site... so she may ring you...
Anyway.... I just wanted to Thank you... everyone who has seen
her says how cute and fancy she is... and she's such a good
girl!!!
I'll ring you tomorrow... ps... I purchased a HUGE bag of carrots...
she wants nothing to do with them... ha... She will be soooo
spoiled.. sooo soon...
Nite**

See Spot Stand
My first initial challenge with Spot was getting him to pick
up and let me hold all four feet before my farrier would even
come out to look at him. The front feet – no problem after
about a week. The back feet he would pull away from me with a
quick kick (in my direction). He got weirder about his back feet
the more I asked for them. I resorted to tying a long cotton lead
to his pastern and pulling backward until he was tired of kicking.
Once he settled down and let me pull his foot back and just hold
it there, I was able to ask him to let me hold it forward with
the rope. After about 2 days of this I could pick up his back
feet with my hands and hold them to pick them out and “bang”
on them a bit. I was thrilled it only took a couple of days once
I used the rope (wish someone had told me this trick sooner).
He had a couple of issues with my farrier which were quickly resolved
with a firm “STAND” and a little pressure on his nose.
He’s a very smart cookie. I am actually a little bummed
I won’t be getting to work with him longer. Being as green
as he was about people in general I learned a lot from working
with him. Anyway, once the feet were not an issue anymore, we
learned to lead properly, stand in the crossties to be clipped
(ears being a little more challenging than the rest), trailering
was never an issue – he jumps right in like he’s going
for ice cream! We played join up games in the round pen for about
a week and learned to lunge on a line in the big arena. I had
his teeth floated, his tumor/wart thing removed and introduced
him to the bit and bridle. Once he was lunging with his bridle
I added a surcingle (small rodeo display, then back to business).
Side reins were next, then ground driving. I was working with
him in the round pen one day and had my friend hold him to see
what he would think of me lying over his back. No big deal. I
sat astride bareback and my friend led him around. Again –
no big deal. The next day I introduce the western saddle (one
more small rodeo display). Once he settled into work I would stand
up in the saddle with only one foot in the stirrup and get down,
stand up, get down... This made him nervous, but he stood. The
next day I began this lesson again and he decided he didn’t
like it and on my second mount and stand he helped me off prematurely.
LOL. Nothing real exciting – I landed on my feet and got
a little sterner with him and did it again. Finally after a few
days of being no big deal I sat down and again had my friend at
his head while we walked around. I was at the point I could groom
him, tack up, go the the arena, mount and walk around and dismount
with no excitement. We are moving this month and I have 2 big
babies that I didn’t want to “put on hold “
through the move, so I sent them to another friend of mine that
helps me with my horses when I get too many or need help. To tell
you the truth, my big mare is really a lot nicer – great
mover, beautiful conformation, etc., but Spot is unusual and my
friend fell in love with him. I was absolutely not ready to sell
him, but I have learned that sometimes the best time to sell a
horse is when someone wants them. She is continuing on with his
training and is planning on using him in her “spiritual
healing” classes, teach him to drive single and use him
as her general riding horse (a little dressage, trail riding,
etc.). She has a very successful training and instruction business
and really never has time for a horse of her own. I didn’t
believe her at first when she asked me how much would I take for
him right now with no further training on his part. I really thought
she was kidding. She said she couldn’t explain it –
she just “had to have him”. So, I sold him to her
for $5000. It was a decent turn around on my part and he went
to a great home with an experienced horsewoman, but I doubt my
decision now. I miss him. He was one of those “one-of-a-kind”
horses that don’t come along very often. My friend Jyl (whom
I sold him to) and I both were worried though that someone would
buy him before he was well broke just for his coloring and size
and ruin him. In her hands, he will not be sold again unless it
is to the right person and for the right price. She claims this
is her “forever horse”. I hope so.
Your friend,
Jenny |

Hey Paula,
I know I just saw you today while looking at a horse for a friend
of mine, and it reminded me that I've been meaning to email you
with a testimony about Pete for sometime now.
There's really no way that I can accurately describe this horse
and do him justice. He's amazing and I think that he is the perfect
fit for me and the type of riding that I like to do.
He's good in groups, he's confident and willing to go out alone,
he'll try anything for you as long as he understands what you're
asking, he loads nicely, he ties, he's sound, he's a gentleman,
he's got a great personality and on top of that everyone is always
commenting on what a cute guy he is. How could I possibly ask for
anything more?
I recently told a friend of mine that I've owned this horse for
almost 7 months now and can't remember one single time when I've
even been slightly frustrated with him. He just gets me I guess..lol.
I can hardly wait to get some camp outs behind us.
Anyway, Thanks...more than you know. :-)

Fritter!
Dear Jeff and Paula, My name is Jenna and I am 10 years
old. This is a picture of me and the horse name Fritter, who I named
Molly. I am so glad that you sold her to Jeanne. Jeanne sold her
to my mom and I got her for my birthday. We are best friends. She
gets ridden four times a week and turned out everyday. She is the
best horse I've ever known. I know it was hard to let go of her,
but I'm glad you did because I love her so much. I even made up
a lullaby that I sing to her. "M- stands for most wonderful
horse. O- stands for of course, she's amazing. L- stands for lovely.
Another L stands for lovable. Y- for yes, I love you. Molly you're
my boo. Molly, your a dream come true. You know just how to cheer
me up, you know just how to make me smile. If I had my choice, I'd
stay here for awhile. Molly, you're the best horse I've ever known
and I'm glad to call you my own. There are lots more compliments
and stories I could say, this is all I have time for today."
Jenna's mom here, we just wanted to let you know how well Molly
is doing and how much she is loved. She is the sweetest mare I've
ever known. She does like to investigate things and makes us laugh
at the barn when she gets herself into things. I took her camping
with my horse and she did awesome ( I also discovered that she
likes Oreo cookies, well, them and any other food she can find!)
Anyway, she is so perfect for my daughter and Jenna is really
enjoying her. Can't believe that the first horse I bought my daughter
is only five years old, but Molly uses her head and I totally
trust her with my daughter. She learns very quickly. Thanks again!!
Holly and Jenna :)
Let us know if you don't get the attached picture of them together. |

Say it isn't so!
Hi Paula and gang,
My mom was telling me that the ranch is on the market, say it
isn't so! We were thinking of adding another member to our family
but can not decide weather to get another one of me (mule) or
a draft for my dad, because cranky old "sassy" has basically
turned in her saddle for greener pasture's and has made it clear
she wants to retire, in case you are wondering this is "Waylon"
I have to confess that I was a little bit of a Jack-Ass (ha-ha)
when I 1st arrived, only when I wanted things to go my way that
is,and my mom would not hear of it. I have a real hard mouth and
can't seem to get over it no matter what she tries, but we are
coming along I am just a youngster you know.Mom has been doing
a lot of ground work with me (boring) and has been working with
the Jerry Tindall methods WHATEVER!!!!!! but has seemed to help
with my flexon (on the ground) in the saddle is a different story.
So are you taking the business with you? or are you hanging up
your spurs? We are not ready for our new addition yet, mom Say's
it won't be until the fall most likely, so I hope you are still
offering up some great mounts in the future because my dad is
a bit of a tenderfoot and needs a gentle giant (mule or horse)
I think he is still a little mad at me you know for dumping him........oh
well he will get over it, I am attaching a photo of myself as
you can see those darned goats have chewed my tail off, but I
do have to admit that I stick my butt to them on purpose I am
kind of lazy and this way I don't have to scratch my own itch,
that's my new saddle that my mom had custom made for me, I was
a little cranky with the saddle she was using it pinched a whole
lot (OUCH!!!) I think that is why I dumped dad, anyhow I am going
to get going it is a beautiful day today and mom is on vacation
so we are going for a ride, take care and god bless.

Bubba! Say no more...
Paula,
I just wanted to drop you an email about Frost, you know him as
"bubba". We bought him for my husband and he is working
out great. Everyone loves him. He gets along with every person
or horse he comes in contact with. What a gentle sole he is. My
farrier had nothing but nice things to say.
We are still in the get to know you stage so we haven't done any
trail on him but I'm confident that he will be just as sweet and
level headed on trail as he is in the arena. I have never come
across a 3 year old that is so level headed. I'm convinced he
is a 3 year old in a 10 year old body.
We appreciate all the time your girls put into helping us the
day we bought him. I would recommend your ranch to anyone...and
have.
I have attached a picture for you.

One for the Webmaster too!
Hi,
I literally stumbled on your website by searching for sale drafts.
Being a long-time lover of draft horses and having my own Percheron
gelding and my own Belgian mare, I can totally appreciate them
for riding. My Percheron made the best trail horse on the planet.
If I lived anywhere remotely close to CA, I'd visit today! I just
wanted to say thanks for putting together such a great website
and for offering such nice looking steeds.
In the future I'll be looking to purchase and adore another Percheron.
I find the breed completely irresistable.
Thanks!
Andrea

We love our horses!
Paula,
We've had our girls for a few months now and we love them. Bella,
the big grey mare, has turned out to be everyone's favorite, including
my nine year old son. The day I test rode her was her first day
under saddle. Remember how nervous everyone was? She is like a
seasoned veteran already. Calm, gentle and oh so Bella (beautiful)!
Heads turn every time we ride. The chunky black mare, now called
Sereana, is also fantastic. My friends can't stop smiling when
they ride her. A great feeling of size and power. They are happy
and healthy and our vet said we got them for a steal. He is jealous!
I am so glad we found your website and I'm telling everyone about
you and your wonderful horses. Thanks again. Sherry |

My Little Fjord :)
HI PAULA, AFTER WE FIGURED OUT WHO'S RIDING WHO,THIS LITTLE FJORD
IS MY DREAM HORSE. I SENT YOU 1 PIC. WHEN I FIRST GOT HIM. THEN
3 MORE OF WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE NOW. HE HAS A NEW NAME , (JASPER) I
COULDN'T HAVE A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE HORSE AND CALL HIM H A R R Y .
ALTHOUGH HE WAS PRETTY" HARRY" WHEN I GOT HIM. HA! HA!
I SPENT HOURES AND HOURS GETTING TO KNOW HIM, NOW, EVERY TIME HE
SEES ME HE RUNS OVER TO ME.WHEN WE RIDE HE TAKES CARE OF ME. WHEN
THE TRAIL GETS SCARY HE REASURES ME WITH HIS GENTLE NATURE. HE DOES
ANY THING I ASK OF HIM, EVEN IF HE'S NOT SURE. I KNOW HE TRUSTS
ME AS MUCH AS I TRUST HIM. IF YOU REMEMBER (I'M THE ONE THAT WAS
SO AFRAID OF HORSES).THANK YOU FOR HOOKING US UP. KATHY |
Paula- Heard you're retiring
But before you go, just want to thank you for picking our draft
cross-Sonny out in Missouri. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have
this wonderful boy. He has brought great joy to my daughter and
myself!
A short history: My 13 year old daughter, Maggie was diagnosed
with Epilepsy several years ago. It was during that time that
I came across Sonny at the Riding Academy (I won't go in to his
previous owners). I was lucky enough (with the help of Sarah and
Rusty) to become his new owner. Maggie has been riding him ever
since. I credit Sonny with bringing her out of her shell; she
is a different child now- very happy and full of life- not afraid
of anything!
Sometimes people don't realize just how important the choices
they make are. I wanted you to know. Thank you so much from the
bottom of my heart.
Lisa
